Welcome to Amy's Bookcase

The Ultimate Paperback Book

Exchange in Farmington, NM.

What is Amy's Bookcase?

Amy’s Bookcase is a brick-and-mortar paperback book exchange at 2530 San Juan Blvd in Farmington, NM. We currently house over 100,000 used books, organized by subject and author, are conveniently located in the heart of San Juan County, carry most mainstream genres and offer a paperback book exchange program. In addition to used books, we also carry a selection of new books and bookish gifts, and offer a monthly book subscription service. We host several events throughout the year.

Our Story

Amy’s Bookcase has been family owned since 1980. Dale and Jean Pancoast bought The Bookcase, (originally started in about 1968!) and grew it, until 1998 when they sold it to their oldest daughter, Amy Henkenius, and her husband, Mike. This is when we changed the name to Amy’s Bookcase. Through the years we have been involved in local outreach, striving to be a true community bookstore. We value our community and look forward to serving it, including San Juan County and the Four Corners Region for many years to come.

We carry some new books, including books by local authors and local interest books. Additionally we have an expansive collection of vintage comic books in stock. We also carry a large assortment of gifts for book lovers, such as specialty bookmarks, book lights, Bookseats, and tee-shirts, and also offer a monthly Book Bouquet service for loved ones out of town.

As a proud independent bookstore we strive to better our community. Our volunteer staff is knowledgeable and can not only assist you in finding what you are looking for, but can also make suggestions, and help with special orders. We often offer book signings and presentations, and participate in National events such as Independent Bookstore Day, Bookstore Romance Day and Small Business Saturday. We also host the scavenger hunt Where Are the Totally Ninja Raccoons in Farmington, based on the children’s series The Totally Ninja Raccoons by Kevin Coolidge, of Pennsylvania.

We are members of the American Booksellers Association, Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association, and Visit Farmington. We are affiliated with Bookshop.org and Libro.fm for those interested in supporting local business while shopping online for hard copy or audio books.
